The Art of Sleep. Start with a Custom Furniture Piece
June 14 2019
I was going to do something just on beds, and given our range of lux bedroom furniture, it wouldn’t be difficult. But I thought I’d add a little snippet on that oh, so elusive activity we all crave more of… Sleeeeeep!
After doing a little research (I do mean a little), I’ve discovered, sleep is a very interesting subject. Cycles, rhythms, temperatures, positions, food, truly interesting.
First off, we all know we need a good night’s sleep. We all know most of us don’t get enough sleep. We all know lack of sleep can lead to a variety of health issues. And so, we all have just enough in order to be a functioning member of society during the day. And most of us get enough to at least give an adequate performance.
But, did you know; We need to complete 4 to 6 cycles per night, there are 5 stages per cycle. We need time, so the cycles have time to cycle (yes, cycles cycle). And wait for it, bananas can help you sleep (yep!).
To gain the full benefit of sleep, we need to allow our body to experience each stage of the sleep cycle, which takes between 90 to 120 minutes to complete. Earlier in the night the stages of deep sleep are longer than REM sleep, but, as the night progresses your deep sleep stages are shorter and REM sleep lengthens. This would be the cycle cycling part… We need at least 4 of these cycles to complete to have a good night’s rest, obviously we’re all different, some may need more and let’s be honest, most of us do.
So, the banana. Well, the body releases several hormones near bedtime to make it sleepy, and the good old banana is well stocked with a couple of these chemicals to help your body chill out and gain a sense of calm. Combined with other healthy habits; Go to bed at the same time each day, start winding down 30-60mins before, a cool, dark room, no playing on your phone, you’re heading for an excellent night’s snooze!
Another thing we also know, and this will undoubtedly help with all of the above, is, having somewhere inviting to lay your head. Your bed. King size, Queen Size or King single, it doesn’t really matter. What matters? Is it comfortable?
Here are Wildwood Designs, we have range of custom furniture pieces in our bedroom collection; where better to begin, to start changing your sleeping habits for the better.
It could be from our Lush range, one of our recycled railway sleeper beds or maybe from our Bunburry range. Comfort is key.
